ISABEL CRAUSE
Isabel Crause (b. 1980, South Africa) is a contemporary artist based in Cape Town. In a time marked by urgency and excess, Crause’s work offers moments of presence as acts of care and quiet resistance. Her practice is grounded in intuitive process, sustained studio attention, and a belief in attention as a serious and necessary mode of enquiry.
Working primarily in mixed media on paper and layered textiles, Crause uses botanical forms as a visual framework and symbolic language, focusing on colour, rhythm, and repetition as lived, sensory experiences. Through permeable surfaces that absorb, disperse and transfer pigment, she creates richly layered works that invite slow, attentive looking and resist immediate interpretation.
Crause exhibits locally and internationally, with works held in private collections across South Africa, Europe, the USA, the UK, and Australia.
